I really like the 990, just wish it had the folding ROPs. I was quoted around $20,000 for the tractor and FEL a couple of months ago. At that price would buy it, but always check around.

I just test drove the 29D/33D last Thursday. When I went through the motions with the empty loader, (they don't let you scratch the paint on the new ones) it made all kind of weird noises. The salesman said this was normal, something like a speed governor. Does this sound familar?

Yes Rob, you are right. My bad, I was quoted for a 990. So I must, (gulp) apologize for my previous comments about the salesman. That price was also with tax.

I think the axle thing was fixed, but check out the loosening left wheel bolt thread. Someone's suggesting wiring in the bolts, that's the last thing I would want to do on a $20,000+ machine. <P>Good luck.

Mark,<br>I just rechecked my prices on the New Hollands and it was about $16800 for the TC35 not $18600. Sorry for the confusion, I've got alot of price sheets laying around.

Roger Loving, I bought the 1050 for a pretty good price and don't really need the back hoe any more. Sure it would be fun and handy to keep for those times I could use it. I was thinking of just selling the hoe but it is a frame mounted unit and works well with the tractor.<P>I don't have much personal experience with compact tractors in general, but I know the JD 1050 is a good tractor. Another reason I would be selling it is that it doesn't fit in my garage and if I get what I want for it I could almost go even up on something new with a warranty.<P>So I take it you don't care for the newer models? Your comments and opinions are more than welcome and please be brutally honest. Maybe this should be it's own thread.

I just bought (approx.) an '87. I see that it has that problem also, what was the cost of the seal? I'm going to have a local mechanic do it because it seems bad. He gave me a price of around $170. Is this some thing that can be done with out a puller and with regular tools? Also, do you need a manual? It's funny, I was looking at this tractor for about an hour and I didn't see this. I guess it was love.

This is a good question and one I've thought about but didn't get a chance ask yet. I assume because it has less capacities, i.e. 3pt lift, hydr. pump, etc.. For instance. The rear PTO lift is like 870lbs @ 24" for the 790 and 2200lbs @ 24" for the 4300 and possibly for the 4200 too.

Wow! Where are you guys from?!? I live in Eastern Pennslyvania. Last night I went to drive the L3010 and the L3410. L3010 w/man trans=$18,236. L3010 w/GST=$18,694. L3410 w/man trans=$19,486. L3410 w/GST=$19,944. All quoted with 60" (regular) FEL, ind tires, folding ROPS. I hate to think of what they wanted for the L3710.

Hey Bill, how ya doin'? We were talking about the differences between the hydros and the manuals. I do notice at least one difference that would be nice on non "D" models. The wrap around headlights seem that they would come in handy for nighttime work. How do the regular ones work?

I was looking at the JD990 and yea, it has a 40hp engine (35PTO). But some of the other specs weren't as impressive. The rear lift cap. of the 3pt is 1500+/- lbs, which is still probably enough. As of right now you can't get a backhoe.

The reason I mention this is that I compared it to the JD4300. Even though it has a 29PTO hp engine, it has 2200lb rear hitch cap., a bigger fuel tank, is only 200lbs lighter, more available attachments and a more modern design. I believe I can get a better price on it too.

It seems as though you're looking for a bigger machine than me, so this is just a FYI. Oh yea, my brochure also said it's a Yanmar engine. I still haven't driven any yet, I'm just spec. comparing.

There is a YM186D for sale at $7200. The specs are, 4x4, ag. tires, loader, 330hrs, plow/snow blade, and field mower. It has a 18hp engine, what is the PTO hp? I was looking for a 30hp+ machine but prices are more than I'm willing to pay right now and I thought I could get by with something smaller for the time being. This is a great site, I just found it last week! God Bless the Internet
